The Kodavas (people hailing from the land of Kodagu) of Coorg take a lot of pride in showcasing their cultural identity and ethnicity. There are numerous clans in the Kodava culture. Each clan has an ancestral home built in an ancestral land offered to the clan leader by the then rulers.
This ancestral home holds a special place in the hearts of all the Kodavas who have migrated from their roots. These ancestral homes called as ‘Ain Mane’ or ‘ Ballya Mane’ believed to be at least three centuries old. They are an illustration of the architectural and socio-cultural significance of the region.
