A video tries telling a story. Although filming and putting it together was an exciting and elevating experience, this video does not do justice to a story like theirs, encompassing years of history and heritage. Someday, this will be a reminder of the day that I witnessed an art that does not exist anymore. It will nonetheless be a great story to share; their experiences, their world, their woes, their aspirations all in a few minutes. The best part? I could claim my small presence in their world!
The coppersmiths of Tambat Ali are an intrinsic part of Punes heritage. That’s why I decided to capture tambats of Pune, specialists in the traditional art of matharkaam, which is the art of beating copper to make it strong.
