Dochula Pass � Way to the kingdom of Peace

Dochula Pass is a big mountain pass that offers incredible views of snowcapped mountain ranges on a clear, albeit cold day.

It is totally worth the stopover on the way to or from Punakha. Dochula Pass is the most visited tourist spot in Bhutan and as it offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the Himalayan mountains. Recently this place has become the most popular pass in Bhutan.

It is not only a tourist spot but also an enjoyable long drive ride from Thimpu City. The most amazing part is that this spot offers a perfect weather which has an outstanding view of the snow covered of Eastern Himalayas range.�The pass is located at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,200 ft) on the East West Road from Thimpu to Punakha.

At Dochula Pass lies the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, which is a monastery that holds a very large statue of Buddha, made entirely from gold.. The Dochula grounds hosts many beautiful manmade caves that are set up in natural surroundings which can be used for meditation and prayers.

This is a place that shows the symbols of Buddhism quite prominently. A 108 chortens in three layers dot the area, often covered by mist. The construction of these chortens was done as per religiously ordained ritualistic procedures.

The best time to travel through Dochula Pass is October to December. However, between October and February, panoramic views of Himalayas can be seen. If you travel on December do not forget to visit Tshechu, the annual religious Bhutanese festival held by The Dochula Druk Wangyel on 13th of December every year.
