On June 17, a heritage Walk was organised in the busy urban city of Mumbai. A bunch of pre-teens and their parents were part of an hour-long heritage walk that was conducted by Khaki Tours including the very reknown Farrokh Jijina, conservation architect Tapan Mittal and founder of Khaki tours Bharat Gothoskar. The walk was to teach children about Mumbais first planned business district and Church which led to being called the Churchgate.
“The intent is to make children aware of the city’s legacy in a way that they can understand. We make the trail simple by using references from cartoons and movies,” says Bharath.
A crucial step
This was the second edition one of a kind walk which was open for those aged 9-14 years of age. The trial started at Asiatic Library and ended at Somaiya Center. The kids were engaged into sketching the trail they followed during the walk and essay writing on their experience and summary of the walk. The team arranged for snacks and water for the children. It is important that we take such a step every once in a while to be in touch with the past and appreciate the architectural wonders of those times. This effort is a crucial step to let younger generations know the wonders of our ancestors which otherwise would be lost in the remains of time.
