Kabaddi is one of the contact sports and its origin lies in Ancient India. Kabaddi is an umbrella term which encompasses various forms of the game including International rules Kabaddi, and the Indian Kabaddi styles � Sanjeevani, Gamine, Amar, and Punjabi. Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh and also the state game of the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Punjab.
Also, Kabaddi is one of the national sports of Nepal.
There is no consensus as to the origins of the word Kabaddi. The word Kabaddi might have been derived from the Tamil word �kai-pidi� meaning �to hold hands�. However, the word might have been prevalent in North India, which was adopted when the All India Kabaddi Federation was formed.�There are many rules, which govern these games, different to regions and regions.
The game is played over 40 minutes with 5 minutes break in between. The game has 7 players on each side and the team that overthrows all the players on the opponent�s side scores four extra points. One of the other style, Gramine style, and seven players play on either side and a player put out has to remain out until his entire team member is out. The team that is successful in ousting all the players of the opponent�s side secures a point. This continues until five or seven such points are made and this has no time duration.
There are various notable competitions in this game field; some of them are Asian Games, Asia Kabaddi Cup, Women world cup, Kabaddi world cup, Pro Kabaddi League, UK Kabaddi cup, World Kabaddi League.
