The temple is believed to be more than 1600 years old built during the Mighty Choola Dynasty by King Deyunge. The idols in the temples are believed to be from the Ancient time of Treta Yug( The age of Sri Raama) when Lord Raama was looking for Sita who was Kidnapped by Demon Raavana. The idols do not have Lord Hanuman as it is believed this was even before Raama had met him.
