Kwangjang Market�is one of South Korea’s oldest permanent markets. It is Korea’s first permanent market that is over a 100 years old. It was founded in 1905.
Prior to that, South Koreans could shop at temporary market places that allowed shopkeepers to set up shop only for a few days. The establishment of Kwangjang Market was a huge step for South Korea to reclaim its sovereignty from Japan.
Being over a 100-years old, not only does this market have a heritage value but even vintage worth – making it desirable for Korean youth to shop for their wedding.

Visiting�Tips:
- Wear comfortable shoes. The market is huge and can take 5-10 minutes to get from the entrance to the street foods area in the middle of the market.
- Have loose money handy. There are so many knick- knacks to buy. It will be easier for you and the seller if you can pay in small notes– unless, of course, if you’re buying hanbok (traditional Korean dress) or silk.
