#makeheritageun – Pralormo Castle of Turin

For the #MakeHeritageFun event, this time I chose to visit a wonderful place that I really love: the Pralormo Castle of Turin.

The first construction of the castle is dated back to the XIII century, as part of the fortifications system in this area of Piedmont disputed between Asti and the Biandrate. Many royal families conquered and possessed it, and in the 1730 the architect Galletti edified the chapel. But the entire renovation of the building happened thank to the earl Carlo Beraudo (the entire name of the castle is indeed “Castello Beraudo di Pralormo”). In this renovation opera the moat and drawbridge were taken away, while the portico and a great flight of steps were built. An English garden was built in the following century. A guided tour is now available for those who are curious about visiting the ancient inside of the building.

What I love the most of this place is not the castle, which is surely very beautiful, but not as awesome as the “Messer Tulipano” festival of flowers which is held in its gardens every year. I study natural sciences so I’m even more interested in those kind of things, but I’m sure that every person on Earth will find this mixture of million of tulips and daffodils of every kind, color and shape which flourishes and decorate the entire perimeter of the castle’s gardens magnificent. Here you’ll find everything, from a nice pink tulip to the rarer black one, for which you’ll have to carefully study every inches of the place to find it (done! It worth the effort). In the pathway you’ll also find different stands with local food, handmade art pieces and of course a lot of flowers! Treasures hunting and many other activities for people of every age are often organized, in order to create a family-friendly event and a nice familiar and welcoming environment for those who will visit the event.

I think this is a very peculiar and unusual event which not so many people knows about, that’s why I thought that it would be the best subject for my last article within the Go Unesco! Internship Program, it is a place that, especially during the Messer Tulipano period, worth a visit in order to breath a little of the magical atmosphere that my beautiful city, once again, can create for its visitors or citizens.
