The time is ripe: Mango festival returns to Pune

The�King of fruits is back and this surely is a treat for all the mango lovers. If you are in Pune, this is your�chance to enjoy various varieties of the delicious fruit�under a single festive roof, with so much at one place. The festival,�organised �by a local body in Pune’s famous Kothrud area from April 15 to May 30, 2017 and should not be missed.�The venue will witness many stalls of mangoes.

India mangoes are�famous in the world for their�sweetness, richness and flavour and is considered to be the most important fruit of all by many. India is the largest producer of mangoes.

The most popular varieties

The most popular varieties�of mangoes in India are Alphonso, Badami, Chausa and Dasheri, Bombay Green, Pairi, Mulgoa, Sindoori, Raspuri, Gulaab Khaas, Amrapali, Kishenbhog, Mankurad and Fazli.

The Alphonso is considered to be one of the superior�varieties� of mango. The taste�and its sweetness is unique. Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Konkan in Maharashtra are the only places where this variety is cultivated and supplied to all over the world. It is also one of the most expensive varieties cultivated in India. An average mango weighs around 200-300 grams.

The Konkan mango festival is held once a year�and is extremely�popular cultural event and celebrates the diversity of local and other varieties. Visitors not only get a chance to taste the fruit, but on most occasions, get to meet the cultivators as well. Summers are�incomplete without mangoes and mango festivals. Especially in Pune, such festivals are popular and�attract many visitors.
