#MakeHeritageFun Day: Omaha Street Art

Street art is everywhere. I did a survey and found that  most people thought of street art as graffiti or giant sculptures in the middle of the courtyards. The cool thing about Des Moines and Omaha is that it means so much more. The artistic graffiti are the hallmarks of Omaha and Des Moines skylines, just like the beautiful fountains, bridge sculptures, incredible storefronts, exhibits and live Music on the streets. It was really cool to check them out with an enthusiastic bunch of people.

For our Make Heritage Fun day, we walked around and looked at some street art. We also visited a few open art exhibits open to the public. My favorite photo we took was around this giant Rooster Chicken Sculpture which I think fits the history and culture of Omaha so well. Here is the selfie we took in front of the rooster:

While we were exploring the art, we were able to hear some great musicians on the street showing their talent. What I love about musicians on the streets of Omaha, is that they engage the public. In this photo there is a guitarist, but I saw trumpeters’, doo-wop groups, and more. It adds to the growing culture of the Midwest and the overall atmosphere of exploring Omaha Street Art.
