Florence, or Firenze, is strongly associated with the Renaissance period of European history: this is as a result of the Medici family’s –Cosimo, in particular– patronage of the leading artists, architects, scientists, and authors of the era. This post endeavors to highlight a few of this author’s favorite�contributions to “high” culture that are linked to this period of Florence’s history.

Santa Maria Novella, designed in part by Alberti, is particularly unique for its trompe l’oeil facade.
Michaelangelo’s David originally overlooked the historic city centre that forms the bulk of the inscription.
