The visit was not planned, but I can say was worth it. Being a student of political science, arts always caught my attention. I always planned to visit, but could never implement it, as they say �unplanned trips are always the best.� And is true in my case.
Humayun’s tomb is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi, India. The decision to make the tomb was taken by Humayun’s son Akbar in 1569-70, and was designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, a Persian architect.�Humayun was the emperor of India, establishing his rule from 1508-1556. After his death, his son had made it an aim to build the tomb in the memory of his late father.
The tomb was started to build in 1565 and was completed by 1572 A.D. The total cost for the construction of the tomb was 1.5 million rupees at that time. The cost was bore by Empress Bega Begum, Humayun�s first wife.. After the death of her husband, she had made it her sole purpose to dedicate her life for the construction of that tomb.
Humayun�s tomb also inspired the construction of another famous heritage site – the�The Taj Mahal.
The architecture of the tomb was influenced by Persian architecture and the architect of the building Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, himself was of Persian origin. Ghiyas constructed the tomb in the center of a Persian-style chaharbagh garden (four gardens) with quadrilateral form. The garden, divided in four main parts is designed to resemble the paradise garden described in the Quran. These four main parts on their turn are separated by channels to 36 parts. The height of the tomb is around 47 meters and 91 meters wide.The building was first to use its unique combination of red sandstone and white marble.
As beautiful as it sounds, the tomb in reality is much more than just words. One can never restrict its beauty to just words, located in Nizamuddin, East Delhi. It comes under the UNESCO heritage site, and is a must see in all sense. One of the most beautiful example of Mughal architecture. My experience to the tomb was both calm and exciting. The ambience was peaceful, if one seeks to be away from the noise and pollution, Humayun tomb is the place.
Not only the architecture is beautiful, but the purpose the garden was meant to provide, is fulfilled. The view is so serene, you can sit there and enjoy the balmy view.
The tomb is like a treat for eyes, in my personal experience, the best I can describe is that my eyes felt refreshed. The favorable weather added to my visit to the tomb.
The renovation and restoration of the monument, glorified its construction in a more obvious way. This tomb is one of the most magnificent tombs built in Delhi. There is a reason why the tomb is listed under UNESCO. Its beauty is one of a kind.
