It is always amazing to know about the authentic and mesmerizing culture around you. I have researched about Holy Week processions in Popayn
And I am amazed to see and understand the beauty of this parade.
Popayan is in Columbia and processions take place here a week before easter. Tuesday to Saturday, this series of processions is devoted to Jesus, Mary, the cross etc. It was declared as a part of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009 and why not!? It is a 400 year old tradition and people are attracted to it now since it is recognized by UNESCO.
Popayan is the religious centre of Columbia and it has a lot of churches, more than any other part of the country. The two prominent ones are The Good Tuesday procession and The Good Friday procession, the latter shows the spirit and passion of lord Jesus Christ just before his crucifixion.
This doesnt end here. It brings with it the beautiful music festival which attracts the visitors. Popayan has a lovely culture and this series of activities highlights it just the right way. Popayan, the city in Latin America is also known as the city of gastronomy, addressed by UNESCO due the lovely Spanish flavours.
This particular procession can only be highlighted via beautiful pictures that are as shown.
