The Kannada and Culture Department of the Government of Karnataka is getting ready to host the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Mysuru in June this year. The Sammelana or the conference is an elite gathering of kannada poetsand writers. It was constructed with the sole purpose of promoting literature, arts, dance and music in the local language.
The sammelana will be held at the Kalamandira Auditorium (Home of Arts), which is Karnataka Government’s most prestigious auditorium in Mysuru. The auditorium has a capacity to seat1200 people and it recentlylaunched a website that will let art enthusiasts book tickets online. This is a huge step in attracting a younger audience to the cultural activities and get them interested in the local language.
The Kannada and Cultural Department has announced the construction ofCharcha Kuteera , an oval shaped open auditorium, within the premises of the Kalamandira, dedicated to artists that will host a wide variety of theaterand cultural activities. The Department is also constructing a Heritage Park to mark the rich cultural heritage of the state. The walkways are being designed and decorated with sculptures all over in order to glorify the art and culture prevalent in the state.
